hello, I just want to know the differences between sound and no sound super 8's. Does no sound mean you can't use sound film in those cameras? And if so, how could I film live music with a no sound camera? Thanks, and again sorry for the dumb questions.

Hi Fed,
Good question, Super 8 sound cameras accept both types of cartridge, film and silent. The sound cartdridge is slightly bigger and can only be used in sound cameras, silent cameras only accept the smaller film carts.
About live music, this is something ive been intersted in before and im sure other people could help you there. Id be very interested to see the "pros"
way of doing this.

Fed, if shooting on silent film, you'll need another recording source. If you're recording live music, then run the mixer into a recording device. But then the tricky part comes when you have to syncronize the sound and the film (eg: on a computer).....that's another story.

Also Fed, I'm not sure if filming live music would be the best thing with Super-8. You'd have to change cartridges every few minutes of filming and could cut off some songs.

Also, it must be noted that sound Super-8 film is no longer manufactured. Unless you find a stash in somebody's freezer (which is possible), shooting silent film and recording the audio on some other medium (DAT, MiniDisc, cassette tape, etc.) is really the only game in town.

you have wonderful replies in the thread "18fps or 24fps" just down here, just have a look and you'll now everything you need to know, but the main point is that you should just use 24fps and forget 18fps. Hope for me i'm still right, this "moviestuff" seems to be the policeman here, hehe!
